Clear jar tilted over with blue slime pouring out of it on a white background.

Slime. The oddly satisfying, easy to make, entertaining oozy substance. This fun creation was originally developed by Mattel Toys in 1976, but slowly the hype died down. The craze returned around 2016 with slime videos all over the media. It was even ranked the number one google search term in the “how to” section in 2017! And so the trend continues on with countless instagram and tiktok accounts attracting millions of views. Thus, if you want to follow along in the ongoing trend, make sure to read all the tips, tricks, and hacks we found below! These simple details will help you pass the troubleshooting stage when it comes to making slime.

Too Sticky
  • If your slime is sticking to your hands and all over the place, simply add more borax to the mixture. This will thicken the recipe, but don’t add too much as it will become stiff.
  • If you aren’t using borax powder, you can thicken it with baking soda or liquid starch.
  • When you first begin to knead the slime, you can also place lotion on your hands so it will be less likely to stick to your palms.
Brighter Color
  • If you are using shaving cream in the recipe, the color will always take on a pastel shade.
  • It is better to use a different recipe that will give you clear slime. Then add food dye!
Won’t Stick Together
  • You used too much liquid starch or water in your recipe. Add clear glue to thicken the mixture and begin to knead for 2-3 minutes
Dried Out
  • This is due to several factors, one being it was left out for too long. When you are done playing or creating slime, make sure to place it in a sealed container or bag.

Scented Slime
  • You can add our Fragrance Oils to scent any slime! From Bubble Gum to Cotton Candy, we have a vast array of scents for your DIY.
  • Simply add 10-15 drops to the slime and knead until completely combined.

Stretchy Slime
  • To make the mixture stretchier than it is, simply add a little bit of lotion.
Fluffy Slime
  • Of course, if you want to make the fluffiest of slime, just add shaving cream to the recipe.
  • If you don’t have shaving cream, you can also use hair mousse with more activator.
Colorful Slime
  • The most popular way to add colorant to slime is using food dye.
  • All you have to do is add a few drops of dye and knead into the mixture.
  • Some people also like to use eyeshadow or nail pigment powder to give it a brighter and more metallic look.

Best Slime
  • The more you wait and the more you knead, the better the slime becomes!

Here is a list of things we like to add to our slime:
